Sand Hill Cranes

Sand Hill Cranes

Door County Wisconsin – September 2017

While in Wisconsin I traveled the back roads checking the farm fields for Sand Hill Cranes.  Southwest of Sturgeon Bay, I found them.  At first I only came upon small groups of 3 to 5 birds.  Eventually I found some larger groups, I assume getting ready to migrate south.  The best part was finding some that seemed to be exercising their wings.  Or maybe just having fun.  I like to think of those birds as jumping for joy in anticipation of the flight.  If you look close, you can see this years young birds do not have the red and white markings on their head.  So here are my pick of the pics.  The first gallery is an assortment.  The second set has two different series of jumping birds.
