Tethered Home Studio Shoot

 

This will be a quick review of this first day/first time attempt of a photo shoot of this type.  I hope to experiment and follow up with refinements at a later date, as the learning process evolves.

Inspired by Harold Ross photographs in the latest Lens Work Magazine (Monograph Series 15), I set up a make shift studio in the shop where I could experiment with lighting and shadows. The iPhone picture above shows the basics.  The d750 camera is tethered (by a cable) directly to the laptop, where I could immediately see the results of each shot on the Lightroom program.  I started with a small LED video light from above and a low powered fill flash from a lower angle.  I additionally added side lighting from other angles as needed using a simple hand held LED.  The diffuser and umbrella were used to absorb and soften the lighting.  Some of my fathers’ old tools and other found items provided the displayed objects.

That’s it.  I’m not going to go into any more than that for now….

I think the last one is my favorite.  I will be experimenting with different lighting types and working to improve the overall look, both in camera and with post processing.  Keep an eye out or check back for more.
