Chincoteague Boat Tour

The Best Way To See The Horses And Wildlife

One of the best ways to see the horses and wildlife of the Chincoteague area is to sign up for a boat tour.  I chose an outfit called Daisey’s Island Cruises (link) and was not disappointed.  This is from their website — “Our nature tours feature close-up views of the world-famous ponies, dolphins, an abundant bird population, and beautiful sunsets… all from our exceptionally comfortable pontoon boats”

I chose a 9:00 am, 6 person, 2 hour nature tour.  They also offer other types and times including sunrise and sunset cruises, and they also have a larger capacity boat.  So check them out if your in the area.

Pictured here is our captain, Nate.  He was well versed with all sorts of information about the area, the horses, and the wildlife.

The Chincoteague Ponies

I have so many great pony pictures from the tour, that I have posted a separate blog with lots of the pony pictures.  Chincoteague Ponies – Don Leonard Greets Rip Tide (link).  It will tell a story of how two of the ‘harem’ bands got a little too close to each other.  Let’s just say, the two stallions had to have a discussion about the event.  I show some of the posturing and other activity that transpired.

In the mean time, here are just a few images so you have an idea of the horses we were able to see from the boat.  Of note, I was using a 600mm lens for the closer views.

Wildlife And Scenery From The Boat

This was just a quick post about one aspect of the area.  The Chincoteague and Assateague islands offer beaches, shops, wildlife viewing, and other tourist activities.

Thanks for more info about my “Happy Place”—been to three Swims but haven’t taken a boat ride.
Hope you can make it some day for Pony Penning Week!
